Every year, when we have a lot of forest fires burning, a number of buyers get burned in their Real Estate deals. Most of the time getting insurance on your home is a rubber stamp. However, this time of year many times an insurance company will refuse to insure a home in the Okanagan Shuswap because of all the fires. Also, many times it has more to do with the insurance company than it does to do with your proximity to any fire. You need to take two simple steps. First, make sure your contract has a condition on it that allows you to get insurance before you remove the conditions and second get a letter from the insurance company ensuring that you have insurance. That way it cannot be revoked.
